Modern Pentathlon is such a diverse sport – no one individual can be an expert in all areas of the sport. That’s why our committee consists of individuals with varying skills and expertise; we aim to direct you to the most appropriate person who can handle your query.

Areas of Expertise

Cathy Whitehead

Is the President of Modern Pentathlon in WA and is also Secretary on the national body, Modern Pentathlon Australia. She has a good general knowledge of all aspects of Modern Pentathlon. Cathy can help you with rules, coaches, clubs and venues and also holds a Swimming WA technical official qualification so she can assist you with the swimming aspects of the sport. Cathy holds a current Police Clearance and has a current Working With Children Check, so she is able to accompany young athletes to competitions interstate or overseas if required. Bob Whitehead

Is the Vice President of Modern Pentathlon in WA. Bob’s particular expertise is in the shooting department. He holds a firearms license and works closely with the WA Firearms branch. Bob is a really good person to speak to if you want to get started in the air pistol discipline. He understands the firearms permit requirements for WA as well as many locations for interstate and overseas. Bob is also our website administrator, designer and photographer. He takes many of the photos that you will see on our website and in our brochures. Contact Bob at bob@finelink.com.au

Ben Peden

Is the Treasurer of Modern Pentathlon in WA and is also the President of the WA Fencing Association. Not surprisingly, Ben is able to help you with all things fencing. Ben is the longest serving committee member of the Modern Pentathlon Association in WA. He has a long history of sports administration and coaching. Contact Ben at uwafencer@yahoo.com

Deane Whitehead

Deane is a competitive pentathlete, with 3 years of Modern Pentathlon experience. She has come from a swimming background and also competes at national level in fencing. She has represented Australia in both fencing and modern pentathlon and brings athlete experience to the committee.

Other Roles?

Maybe you don’t want to take on an executive role but would still like to help out in some capacity. Please do let one of the committee members know if this is the case. We are always looking for parents and friends of pentathlon to assist with booking venues for competitions, fundraising, organising social events, making posters for competitions, helping with timekeeping and other duties at competitions, organising uniforms etc. We look forward to welcoming you aboard!
